We are pleased to announce the following winners for our novel for children competition.
Pre-school: The Doo-da Hoo-Ha by Fiona Barker
This is awarded first prize for the pre-school group as it has a great message. We had numerous entries which looked at plastic in oceans from the perspective of animals caught up in it, but this goes to the heart of the problem – the endless throwaway plastic toys and fads marketed at kids that end up as waste. Also it showed these toys from the perspective of young children and playground politics so was relatable to its target audience, in a fun and engaging way. Read the winning story here.
Honourable mentions for the pre-school category also go to the following:
‘Billie MacNilly’s Family Tree’ by Julia Hadley
The Water’s Way by Marilyn Anne Campbell
Gulls Just Wanna Have Fun by Joan and Rhona Osbaldeston
Young Readers: Field Trip by Terry Lowell
Field Trip by Terry Lowell is awarded first prize for the young readers group. Our judges loved the brilliant time travel plot with a great twist at the end. A lovely story that shows how we may get from where we are to where we want to be. Read the winning story here
